The Warrior in the Mirror
What if the greatest obstacle to becoming the man God created you to be isn't your lack of ability—but your desire to become someone else?
Years ago, while working in a military training facility with Navy SEALs, I became consumed with one mission: helping warriors become even more prepared for combat. Every workout, every drill, every training session was designed with one purpose—to give these men every physical advantage possible before they stepped into dangerous environments.
One afternoon, while walking through our athletic training facility, a SEAL recovering from an injury called me over.
"Hey Mike, I heard you're building a new training program for us."
"I sure am," I replied.
His excitement was contagious. We sat down together, and I began explaining the philosophy behind the program—why it was different, how it would improve endurance, speed, power, explosiveness, and ultimately prepare them for the realities of combat.
Then he said something I never expected.
"Man... I can't wait to get back to training. Have you ever seen the movie 300? That's what I want to look like. I want to look like a warrior."
I looked at him and said:
"If you want to know what a warrior looks like, stand up, walk over to the mirror, and take a long look. You're looking at one."
We Forget Who We Are
Most of us spend our lives comparing ourselves to someone else. We chase images instead of identity. We pursue acceptance instead of purpose.
Comparison convinces us that who we already are isn't enough.
Authenticity Is More Than Self-Expression
Culture says authenticity means "just be yourself."
Scripture teaches something deeper.
Authenticity is becoming the person God originally designed you to be.
It means living according to His purpose rather than someone else's expectations.
Jesus Reveals Your True Identity
We came from the mind of Christ.
The closer we grow to Him, the more we discover who we truly are.
He doesn't erase your uniqueness.
He reveals it.
Stop Performing
- Am I impressive enough?
- Am I successful enough?
- Do people approve of me?
Instead ask:
Am I becoming the man God created me to be?
Look in the Mirror
The world doesn't need another imitation.
It needs the authentic version of you.
Look into the mirror through the eyes of your Creator—and you'll discover the warrior has been there all along.
